Types of Vape Wires and How to Use Them

Vaping has become a popular way to consume nicotine, especially among those who are trying to quit smoking cigarettes. But if you’re new to vaping, the process of choosing the right vape wire can be daunting. In this blog post, we will explore the different types of vape wires and how to use them. From kanthal to nickel and more, we will help you understand the pros and cons of each type of wire so that you can make the best decision for your needs.

Wire Gauge and Resistance

The diameter of the wire affects the amount of current that can flow through it. The thicker the wire, the more current it can carry. The resistance of the wire determines how much voltage is required to push a certain amount of current through it. The thinner the wire, the higher the resistance.

To find the gauge of wire needed for your project, you’ll need to know the maximum current draw of your device and build, and what voltage you’ll be using. Once you have that information, you can use this formula:

Wire Gauge = (Current Draw * Voltage) / Resistance

For example, let’s say you have a device that draws a maximum of 5 amps at 12 volts. You want to use 22 gauge Kanthal wire because it has a lower resistance than other types of vape wires. Using the formula above, we get:

Wire Gauge = (5 * 12) / 0.032 = 1562.5 / 0.032 = 48939.0625 or ~49000 AWG

As you can see, 49000 AWG is much too thin for our purposes! We’ll need to use something thicker, like 26 AWG Kanthal wire.

Temperature Control Mode (TC)

There are three different types of temperature control mode, each with their own benefits:

1. Soft Mode: This is the default setting on most mods and is recommended for new vapers. Soft mode will gradually increase the wattage as you vape, which prevents dry hits and protects your coil from burning out.

2. Medium Mode: This setting is perfect for those who want a bit more power without sacrificing flavor or throat hit. The wattage will increase more quickly than in soft mode, but not as quickly as in hard mode.

3. Hard Mode: This is the highest power setting and is recommended for experienced vapers who know how to properly prime their coils. The wattage will increase very quickly, so it’s important to watch your coil closely to prevent dry hits or burning out your coil.

Types of Vape Wire

There are three types of vape wires: kanthal, nichrome, and stainless steel. Each type of wire has its own benefits and drawbacks.

Kanthal wire is the most common type of vape wire. It is made from iron, chromium, and aluminum. Kanthal wire is resistant to oxidation and can be used at high temperatures. However, kanthal wire can be difficult to work with because it is brittle.

Nichrome wire is made from nickel and chromium. Nichrome wire has a lower resistance than kanthal wire, so it can be used at lower wattages. Nichrome wire is also less likely to break than kanthal wire. However, nichrome wire can oxidize at high temperatures.

Stainless steel wire is made from iron, chromium, and nickel. Stainless steel wire does not oxidize and can be used at high temperatures. Stainless steel wire is also the easiest type of vape wire to work with because it is flexible.

Kanthal wire

Kanthal Wire

Kanthal wire is one of the most popular types of vape wires because it is easy to use and can be found at most vape shops. Kanthal wire is made from an alloy of iron, chromium, and aluminum, which makes it resistant to oxidation and corrosion. This type of wire is also known for its high melting point, which makes it ideal for use with high wattage devices. When using Kanthal wire, it is important to wrap your coils tightly so that they do not come into contact with the wicks or each other.

Nichrome wire

Nichrome Wire

Nichrome wire is a type of resistance wire made from an alloy of nickel and chromium. It is commonly used in applications where high temperatures are encountered, such as in toasters and hair dryers. Nichrome wire has a relatively high resistance to corrosion and oxidation, making it ideal for use in vaping devices. When used in vaping, nichrome wire heats up quickly and evenly, providing a consistent vape experience.

Stainless steel wire

Stainless Steel Wire

Stainless steel wire is one of the most popular types of vape wires. It is typically used for rebuildable atomizers and can be used for both sub-ohm vaping and temperature control vaping. Stainless steel wire does not have as much resistance as other types of vape wires, so it can be used to create very low resistance coils. This makes it a good choice for vapers who are looking for a more intense vaping experience. Stainless steel wire can also be used in temperature control mode, which allows you to set a maximum temperature for your coil. This prevents your coil from getting too hot and helps to avoid dry hits.

Nickel wire

Nickel Wire

Nickel wire is a popular material for vape wires because it has a high resistance to heat and is very durable. Nickel wire is also a good choice for vapers who are looking for a wire that will produce large amounts of vapor. When using nickel wire, it is important to wrap your coils tightly so that they do not come undone.

Titanium Wire

Titanium wire is one of the newest types of vape wires on the market. Titanium wire is known for its high resistance and durability. Titanium wire is also a very low temperature wire, so it is perfect for those who want to avoid dry hits. Titanium wire can be used in both wattage mode and temperature control mode.
